We believe that charitable work is an important aspect of our school curriculum and helps our pupils to understand our community and wider society, whilst also developing empathy for others.
We always support 3 charities, one local, one national and one international. This year at Highfield we will be supporting the following charities:
The Miners Lamp Café (local charity)
The Miners Lamp Community Cafe and Hub is operated by the Friends of Eastwoods Park, located in Prudhoe. They support many local people through their food bank and pay-as-you-feel market. They also hold activities and events for children and work to tackle issues such as holiday hunger.
Macmillan Cancer Support (national charity)
Right now, more than 3 million people are living with cancer in the UK. By 2030 this figure will rise to 4 million. Macmillan aim to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, by providing physical, financial and emotional support. They endeavour to do whatever it takes, no matter what a person's needs are, they will listen and support them every step of the way.
WWF (international charity)
WWF are determined to stop the destruction of nature and help it to recover. They are focusing on several areas of work that will help turn things around, including: food sustainability, tackling the climate crisis, conservation programmes and working with local communities. Their aim is to create a world where people and nature thrive.
