LIBRARY RE-LAUNCH EVENT
This week we celebrated the refurbishment and investment in our library with a re-launch event.
Author Peter J Murray visited school to re-launch the library, over 150 children lined up to get their books signed, the atmosphere was fantastic! The Hexham Courant also visited to take photos of the book signing extravaganza! Peter J Murray commented as he cut the ribbon into the library that he thought Highfield was a 'fantastic school with a great reading ethos."
Overall, there is a real buzz about reading at Highfield at the moment- with record numbers of kids attending the book signing! Well done to Mr Bell, Mrs Perrin, Miss Metcalfe, Miss Jones, the Librarians, the Year 8 English Leaders, Peter J Murray...and all the keen readers and staff at Highfield for making it happen!
READATHON
Children are embarking on a Readathon which includes reading as many books as possible by Christmas! Prizes will be ready for the winners from each year group. Parents can offer to donate £1 per book for every 5/10 books read depending on what they deem appropriate to Joey''s fund (this was on the letter to parents/carers) this is not mandatory but merely an incentive for pupils. We are thrilled that pupils are reading more than ever before and thank parents for their continued support as we begin our Readathon, Happy reading Highfielders!
Mrs Perrin-Hudson and Miss Metcalfe.
The school library is open every lunchtime from 12:40 until 13:10. Children can borrow one fiction and one non-fiction book for a two week period. If after the two weeks they have not finished the book, they can have it re-scanned for a further two weeks. We are very lucky to have pupil librarians who do an amazing job of helping Miss Jones with the day-to-day running of the library. If books are lost or damaged, a £5.00 donation is requested towards a replacement. The library is also there for anyone who needs a quiet place to do homework or as a place of quiet solitude if needed.
We are in the process of revamping our library. We will post updates on our website as they happen.
