Modern Foreign Languages

 

At Highfield Middle School, the MFL curriculum supports the whole-school ethos of helping pupils to gain an understanding of the world in which they live.  Throughout their language lessons (2 per week in KS2 and 3 per week in KS3), pupils are encouraged to develop their communication skills through listening, reading, writing and speaking.   The department recognises the importance of both language and intercultural understanding and therefore, the curriculum is structured to promote both these elements of learning.  All pupils study French in Key Stage 2 and 3, Year 7 and 8 are also introduced to Spanish so that they can draw on similarities and differences between languages in preparation for further study.
