Headteacher Update

Dear Parents and Carers

We have had a very positive start to the new school year here at Highfield. Our new Year 5 pupils are settling in extremely well and we have been really impressed with their independence and maturity.

Pupils across all year groups have been really well behaved and ready to learn. We have handed out lots of Highfield points already. In case you didn’t know, we operate a rewards system where pupils are awarded points for: Achievement; Effort; Respect; Contribution and Readiness to learn. Our prize shop will open soon, when pupils can cash in their points at key milestones for a range of exciting prizes, ranging from stationery to ‘experiences’ such as marshmallow roasts around a campfire. At this rate, some pupils will reach the 100 point milestone in no time!

We have enjoyed our visits this week from Peter J Murray, a friend of Highfield and author of fantastic children’s books. It has been great to see so many children enthused by reading, something we really value at Highfield.

We have also been very happy to see our pupils dressed very smartly on their return to school. A small minority of pupils are not wearing correct footwear and/or wearing unsuitable jewellery. Relevant parents will be contacted about this over the next few days. We really appreciate parents supporting us in ensuring fairness and equality for all pupils. If you have problems providing your child with correct uniform, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to help.

Finally, I can confirm that school will be closed next Monday 19th September to mark the funeral of our Queen Elizabeth II. We have talked in assemblies and lessons about the passing of our monarch and pupils have, without exception, shown a great deal of respect and compassion.

Well done Highfielders, keep it up!

Regards
Richard Oades
