Our International Partnership with Rokana Primary School and Paradise School in Zambia has been established since 2011. The partnership is well embedded in both schools, with staff having participated in reciprocal visits over the last three years. For staff and pupils, teaching and learning has been developed in the form of joint projects between the two schools, using the same planning and resources to deliver input on various themes and topics, including global citizenship, recycling and sustainability.
Previous projects have included: the adoption of an African Elephant, Chamilandu, in Zambia; exchange of pen-pal letters between Highfield Middle School and Rokana Primary School Pupils; establishing an International Club at Highfield Middle School to be at the forefront of International happenings; a student led 'Dress a Girl Around the World' project where our pupils design and make clothing items for pupils in Zambia; sharing or resources and 'web-link' lessons delivered by the geography department; opportunities for staff CPD and development through participation in Connecting Classrooms 'Critical Thinking' training course.
Our partnership has developed and expanded significantly over the last year and is in the process of assisting other local First School in Prudhoe to form new links with other Primary Schools in Kitwe, Zambia.
